Malachi enters into his third topic by pointing out that those who claim to be in covenant with the God of Israel cannot then break covenant with those around them. Malachi gives two examples: intermarriage with foreigners and divorce, but these are obvious clear examples of more subtle covenant breaking of which Israel and we today are guilty.
